It was a victory hard-won. That much no one would contest, even after she had earned the title of Ifrit's Bane alongside three others. The inferno had been child's play to the forces of the earth beneath their feet. Perhaps that is why she had chosen to relax a little before returning to Horizon, and why she was still alive.
The horrors of the inferno and the navel could not have prepared her as she entered the Waking Sands; nay, not even her life before immigrating to Eorzea could have for the blood on the walls and the stench of death that inhabited where so many souls sought refuge from the Garlean Empire. Friends, and perhaps even family lay dead on the floor where they had been shot or even worse.
She knelt down, checking every body for a pulse. Perhaps if there were at least one, she could cast Physick - or maybe even Resurrection!
Yet there was none, and her hopes plummeted and (only slightly) rose again when she heard a faint cough.
"Noraxia?"
Badra didn't think beyond kneeling down beside her little sylvan friend, trying to ignore the pounding in her head as she tried to listen to her choked out words.
For...give... this... one...
No, please - hold on! Allow me to heal your wounds-
She reached for her tome, but the flashes of Noraxia's memories grew too strong. To see Minfilia try to protect her and her allies, try to leave a message for her and her Lalafellin friend, only for Noraxia to try and protect Minfilia instead... She knew she needed to leave posthaste, and yet she couldn't help but give pause to close her friends' eyes so that it would look as though they were only sleeping in the carnage.
"I'm sorry, everyone," she muttered as she closed Noraxia's, "I was too late to save you."
No power she held could reverse time or raise the dead dead from their graves, and it was all she could do to keep her emotions contained as she headed for the door. "Home" wasn't safe, now - nowhere was. They would come looking for her no matter where she went, and yet... she would try to follow the message left for them.
Before she did, though, she stopped at the door, standing tall and placing one fist behind her back while the other rested above her heart.
'I promise... I will save our family. Whether I have to dive deeper into the black abyss to do so or not.'
With that silent vow, she raised her hood and vanished into the aetheric flow.
